Hey everyone and welcome back to Cyn and Sam for a review of Kingsman: The Secret Service! We went to see Kingsman for one of my (Cyn's) 19th birthday celebrations with family and we thought it was brilliant. It is based on a comic book of the same name and directed by Matthew Vaughn (of X-Men First Class and Kick Ass). It presents the story of a top-secret spy organisation fronted by Bespoke suited gentlemen. One such gentleman (Colin Firth) recruits a delinquent (Taron Egerton) who has potential to succeed in the organisations extremely difficult training program, all the while a squeamish super villain (Samuel L Jackson) starts his global attack. Now before we get started, we should mention that I (Cyn) have a somewhat squeamish stomach when it comes to violence and remarkably I can handle real life brain surgeries and heart transplants but put it in a movie (with the music and without the doctor) and I tend to fall apart. Luckily for us, Kingsman had very few scenes that I couldn't handle. The movie was ridiculously violent, including one excruciatingly long fight scene, however it was done in such a way that it was both amusing and easy to watch for a frequenter of crime shows or general action movies. There were a few moments that sparked me to turn my head just in case of something particularly gory but all in all, it was excellent in terms of creating action scenes that were expertly directed and filmed, as well as interesting and engaging. If you have seen and enjoyed Kick-Ass then Kingsman will be right up your alley. The quintessential comic book violence is upheld by Vaughn and done in the style of Kick-Ass.

The movie itself is hilarious, with cussing left, right and centre by Egerton and a few choice jokes that come from gentlemen with no funny side, making it all the more hilarious. Add in the super villain Valentine who has a lisp and 'no thomach for violenth' and you have yourselves a cracker of a movie.

Of course, Valentine often steals the show, with gaudy outfits and his, shall we say, eloquent way of speaking. Sense the sarcasm. Not only do his clothes and voice often override all other happenings in the scene but his assistant Gazelle (Sofia Boutella), with two bionic and deadly legs often takes over in a show of skill and killing potential.

Another show stealer is Colin Firth himself who rises to the occasion of a well-suited spy gentlemen. As he shows Egerton the ropes he is nothing short of brilliant. Taron Egerton is also excellent in the role and a relatable character. He has protective instincts down to a tee while being the horrifyingly rebellious boy he is portrayed to be. Another notable actor is Mark Strong who plays the somewhat assistant called Merlin. Deviating from his other villainous roles, this suits Strong very well.

This movie shows how in many ways it is a spoof of all James Bond films (with its gadgets and super secret MI6-esque organisation) however it brings a whole new edge to the genre, a comedic edge, that makes this appealing and enjoyable. The movie ends on a comical note, as is expected, and was received by all patrons as a fantastic movie. Highly recommended by us if you're into action/adventure or comedy. Note a few violent scenes. Thanks for reading this review, Cyn and Sam P.S. Check out IMDB for a full list Parents Guide of all profanity, violence and sex scenes if you're at all concerned. Please note, while it does not contain any character or actor names it may give away scenes of the movie and therefore spoilers. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2802144/parentalguidem
